The rest of the AFC West spent the NFL offseason looking to catch up to the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Denver Broncos bolstered their offense while the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers emphasized their defense.

The Chiefs not only have most of their starters returning to the team, they completed long-term extensions done with critical talents like Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, and now Travis Kelce. Kansas City also added intriguing talents in the 2020 NFL Draft like Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

The Broncos had a clear need to add more talent on offense, particularly at receiver to provide complements to Courtland Sutton. Denver got the job done by selecting Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler with their initial two selections in the 2020 NFL Draft after signing Melvin Gordon.

In 2019, the Raiders had a poor defense and turned to free agency to add talents like Cory Littleton, Maliek Collins, Carl Nassib, and others. Las Vegas did add an intriguing offensive weapon in Henry Ruggs III in the NFL Draft along with defensive back Damon Arnette.

Coming off an impressive season, the Chargers were one of the NFL’s biggest disappointments in 2019. Now, they moved on from long-time starting quarterback Philip Rivers, prompting the selection of Justin Herbert. They appear to still be in a transition period.

There will be plenty of importance for all NFL teams to use training camp to be able to sort out personnel decisions. The preseason is typically a helpful tool to make final roster cuts and to make determinations about the players throughout depth charts.

With that being said, there is one huge training camp battle to watch for each team in the AFC West.
