NFL: One second-year player to watch from each team in the AFC South

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee Titans — Jeffery Simmons

During the pre-draft process for the 2019 NFL Draft, Jeffery Simmons was considered one of the premier interior defender prospects. Sadly, the Mississippi State product would sustain a torn ACL while preparing himself for the draft.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding his injury, Simmons fell outside of the top-15 in the draft. Nonetheless, the Titans knew they couldn’t pass on Simmons once he fell to them at No. 19 in the first round. Even though they knew he wouldn’t be able to begin the season on the field, Tennessee realized they could be getting a steal in the gifted interior defender.

The rookie first-round pick would make his debut in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers. When it was all said and done, Simmons would play in nine games, notching 32 tackles and two sacks. While he didn’t get to play nearly half of his rookie season, Simmons has the tools to become a special player in the NFL.
