NFL: One second-year player to watch from each team in the NFC North

Minnesota Vikings — Irv Smith Jr.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Vikings were looking to add an offensive weapon that could create mismatches to a defense. As a result, they took Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of the draft out of Alabama.

To finish his collegiate career at Alabama, Smith proved that he could be a versatile pass-catcher in an offense in the NFL. Even though Kyle Rudolph was the No. 1 tight end on the depth chart, Smith did a decent job at making the most of his limited opportunities in 2019.

The rookie tight end would corral 36 receptions for 311 yards and two touchdowns to kickstart his career with the Vikings. But now — besides rookie Justin Jefferson — could be in line for more targets in Minnesota’s offense while they attempt to replace the production that is left behind by the Diggs trade.
