NFL: One second-year player to watch from each team in the NFC South

Carolina Panthers — Brian Burns

At the beginning of the 2019 season, the Panthers deployed veterans Mario Addison and Bruce Irvin as their starting edge rushers. On the other hand, Brian Burns, Carolina’s first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, would see a decent-sized role in the defense as well.

The rookie out of Florida State would flash plenty of potential, recording 16 quarterback hits, 7.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. In addition to those numbers, Burns also scored a 56-yard touchdown on his lone fumble recovery.

With Addison and Irvin departing in free agency, Burns will have an opportunity to shine as a starter after making just five starts in 2019. If Burns can build upon his impressive rookie campaign, he could easily evolve into one of the premier edge rushers in the NFL.
