No, this is not a player that will make an immediate impact on the team, and Steelers fans should hope he never would have to make an impact. However, Ben Roethlisberger is aging and his injury history speaks for itself. Trading for a backup quarterback could help in case Big Ben goes down once more.

A trade may not be required to land a solid backup talent since Josh Rosen was released. He truly hasn’t received the shot that the former No. 10 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft deserved.

Multiple teams and multiple systems are sure to throw any young quarterback off his game, so it’s difficult to fault Rosen too much. He has ended up in two situations where the franchise drafted a more dynamic prospect, too.

A player like Rosen in free agency, or pursuing a trade for a more established backup like Robert Griffin III would certainly provide a better option than Duck Hodges or Mason Rudolph, and learning behind a future Hall of Fame quarterback would certainly boost his confidence.
