NFL: One trade each team in the AFC South should pursue before the season

Trade Package: Houston Texans trade Will Fuller V and a third-round pick for Brandon Scherff and a third-round pick

Protecting Deshaun Watson has been an issue for the entirety of Watson’s career. While the Texans made a blockbuster deal for Laremy Tunsil, one player is not enough to transform an offensive line. However, trading for guard Brandon Scherff would help this offense tremendously.

While losing Will Fuller would be a big loss, Kenny Stills would be able to fill the same role Fuller had in this offense. Both players do a very good job stretching the field and making big plays.

This trade works out well for both Washington and Houston. Washington would add a quality receiver, who when healthy is one of the league’s top deep threats. On the other hand, the Texans would shore up their offensive line while adding more draft capital. The draft picks would be a major factor in this trade as well.

Washington is predicted to have a very high pick this season. Houston is likely a mid to late round pick. While Washington may be losing out on the draft pick, Scherff is likely to hit the free agent market next offseason. Washington would be smart to trade him before they lose him for nothing.

Both Washington and Houston fill in holes with this trade. Houston, while lacking star power, has a very deep receiving core. Losing Fuller is a loss they can deal with. They will not be able to overcome a Deshaun Watson injury.

This season, Houston will need Watson to perform at his best. He cannot do that if he is on his back every other play. Washington would be able to give Dwayne Haskins another quality receiver as they continue to build for the future.
