Los Angeles Chargers
Trade Package: Los Angeles Chargers trade Melvin Ingram and a fourth-round pick to the Detroit Lions for Taylor Decker.
Much like the Broncos, the Chargers’ offensive line has made some improvements. Brian Bulaga and Trai Turner are two very solid veteran starters. However, there is still a major need at left tackle that must be taken care of.
Trading Melvin Ingram may be a big loss for the Chargers pass rush, but they will be getting a great left tackle in return. Meanwhile, the Lions add another great pass rusher, which could help this young defense.
Throughout his career, Taylor Decker has been a very consistent left tackle. He is doing an excellent job protecting the quarterback’s blindside. However, the Lions have left tackle Tyrell Crosby who is good enough to start.
Instead of having to re-sign Decker, they may just opt to go with Crosby next season. Trading Decker and getting a good veteran edge rusher would be a smart move for the Lions. Detroit also gets a mid-round draft pick which could help with their rebuilding process.
While Ingram is a solid player, he is coming up on a contract year. He is 31-years-old now and the Chargers have plenty of young defensive players to resign. Resigning Ingram will not be their top priority. Trading for Decker would solve their issues on the offensive line. He would protect Justin Herbert’s blindside for the foreseeable future.
The offensive line would improve tremendously and the offense would be more dynamic as a result. This trade works out well for both teams–making the Chargers better equipped to compete in the AFC West right away.
