5. Packers Sign Christian Kirksey
The fact that the Packers landed on this list at all is a miracle. They had a very strange offseason thus far. Bryan Bulaga is now with the Los Angeles Chargers and Blake Martinez left for the New York Giants. The Packers best move of the offseason was signing Christian Kirksey to replace Martinez.
Kirksey signed a two-year, $13 million deal with Green Bay. Even though he is slightly below Martinez, this was a move that the Packers needed to make. Kirksey spent the first six years of his career with the Cleveland Browns. He played just two game in 2019 because of a chest injury.
Despite their desperate need for a wide receiver, the Packers did not add one in the 2020 NFL Draft. They signed Devin Funchess to a one-year deal to be a No. 2 behind Davante Adams. This move would have been featured on this list but Funchess recently opted out of the 2020 season because of COVID-19. This means that the Packers’ receiving group is back to being a huge problem.
Green Bay will be a winning team in 2020 because of Aaron Rodgers. If they wanted to take a step toward a Super Bowl, the Packers needed a big offseason and they did not get that. Adding Kirksey is a nice move to keep the defense well-rounded and attempt to replace Martinez in the lineup.
