1. Vikings Trade Stefon Diggs, Draft Justin Jefferson
There were few teams, if any, that had a better draft than the Vikings. It all began when they traded Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills for four draft picks including a first-round selection in 2020. This left the Vikings in need of a receiver opposite Adam Thielen.
The Diggs’ trade did more than just give the Vikings an extra pick in the first round. This deal got rid of the drama in Minnesota. The cryptic tweets and trade rumors are no more. Diggs will be a boost for the Bills but the Vikings got themselves their own new weapon. Once the Philadelphia Eagles decided to draft Jalen Reagor at No. 21, Minnesota had their pick fall right into their lap. They add a receiver that finished with 111 catches for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns at LSU last season.
Jefferson is the type of receiver an offense can rely on. He is a strong route runner with great speed and exceptional hands. Jefferson gives Kirk Cousins another weapon on the outside to work with. Thielen and Jefferson could arguably be the best receiving duo in the division. Jefferson is a pro ready receiver. He was not viewed as a top prospect along with Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, and CeeDee Lamb, but his production will speak for itself during his rookie season.
The Vikings also drafted Jeff Gladney in the first round. Night one of the draft was an extreme success for a team that is looking to take the next step towards a Super Bowl. The Vikings are ready and should be viewed as contenders. Jefferson is a main reason. This is why the Vikings had the best move of the offseason and without a doubt the best draft in the NFC North.
