6. Marcus Mariota, Las Vegas Raiders
After losing his starting job with the Tennessee Titans to Ryan Tannehill in 2019, Marcus Mariota will look to do the same to Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s not improbable considering the upcoming season will be a make-or-break year Carr.
If Mariota were to see the field at some point in 2020, he’d have plenty of intriguing weapons to work with in the Raiders’ offense. It all starts with Josh Jacobs in the backfield setting the tone along with Darren Waller at tight end. It doesn’t hurt to have Henry Ruggs III in the mix either.
Considering the fact that Carr has been a highly efficient quarterback in his career, it’s not the most likely of scenarios that he gets benched. Regardless, it’s more likely for Mariota to see the field in 2020 due to a non-injury related reason than Jameis Winston, prompting a higher ranking.
It’s unclear what Mariota’s long-term outlook is for a starting quarterback role in the NFL. Regardless, he has a two-year deal with the Raiders that will pay him a base salary of $7.5 million with the potential to reach $1.625 million based on incentives. That’s not bad for a backup role.
