5. Nick Foles, Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears will enter the upcoming season with Mitchell Trubisky as the starting quarterback. It’s far from a guarantee that the season ends with that still being the case. Making it a point to trade for Nick Foles from the Jacksonville Jaguars only adds to that.
Foles is no stranger to being in position battles and his latest with the Bears is different than ones in the past. He already has familiarity with head coach Matt Nagy from their time with the Philadelphia Eagles organization, particularly as his quarterbacks coach.
There isn’t a lot that Foles would have to work with in the Bears’ offense if Chicago were to turn to him at quarterback outside of Allen Robinson. Adding Tedd Ginn Jr. and Jimmy Graham are underwhelming additions and Anthony Miller needs to prove himself.
A real chance to compete for a starting job on a team that has a high-level defense is intriguing. Foles ranked ahead of Jameis Winston on this list mostly due to having a clearer outlook for immediate playing opportunity, but the supporting cast keeps the ranking down.
