Los Angeles Rams Trade for Jalen Ramsey
The Jacksonville Jaguars also dealt with an All-Pro defensive back wanting out to which they accommodated. The deal sent two first-round picks (2020 & 2021) and a 2021 fourth-round selection to Jacksonville with Jalen Ramsey going to the Los Angeles Rams.
The deal took place in mid-October of last season and the Rams posted a 5-4 record during his nine appearances. The results were evident when Ramsey was on the field and landing an elite corner will have added importance in 2020 with DeAndre Hopkins in the NFC West.
There’s added context to consider when it comes to the overview of what took place for Ramsey to get traded to the Rams. Los Angeles moved on from Marcus Peters prior to trading for Ramsey and netted just a fifth-round pick from the Baltimore Ravens.
With the way Peters has played since being sent to the Ravens, it would be difficult to say Ramsey and a fifth-rounder were worth giving up Peters, two first-round picks, and a fourth-rounder. Especially when factoring in the initial result was a third-place finish in the NFC West.
There is still a need for the Rams to sign Ramsey to a long-term deal and the cost is expected to be considerable. Both sides are ‘on the same page’ regarding a potential extension so that’s expected to get done at some point.
