Jim Harbaugh has been out of the NFL for almost a decade now, but that doesn’t mean he will never return to the professional ranks.
Harbaugh’s name has been mentioned as a potential head-coaching candidate for numerous teams over the last several months, and the most recent club that has been thrown out there as a possible landing spot is the Chicago Bears.
Shervon Fakhimi of ClutchPoints likes the Bears as a destination for Harbaugh, as the Matt Eberflus era in Chicago has not exactly gone very well.
Eberflus has gone just 4-19 since taking over as Bears head coach last year, and with quarterback Justin Fields criticizing Chicago’s coaching staff earlier this season, it’s pretty clear that a disconnect has formed between Eberflus and the team.
NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Jim Harbaugh, Chicago Bears Updates
Harbaugh spent four seasons as San Francisco 49ers head coach from 2011 through 2014 and never posted a losing record. He led the 49ers on a trip to the Super Bowl, two other NFC Championship Game appearances, and a pair of NFC West division titles. Overall, he went 44-19-1 in San Francisco, with his worst campaign coming in 2014 when the Niners went 8-8.
Since then, Harbaugh has returned to the college ranks, where he has been at the helm for the University of Michigan.
Harbaugh has gone 81-25 since taking over at Michigan in 2015 and has taken the Wolverines to seven bowl games. However, Michigan has not had much bowl success under Harbaugh, going just 1-6 in those contests.
NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Jim Harbaugh, Chicago Bears Updates
Still, Harbaugh has proven that he can succeed on the NFL level, so it’s no surprise that he is generating some interest.
The Bears are 1-5 heading into Week 7 and have made just two playoff appearances since 2011. They have also not won a Super Bowl in almost 40 years, so it seems relatively safe to say that they are a fairly desperate franchise at this point.
Perhaps Harbaugh can cure all of the club’s recent ills.
