NFL Scout Calls WR George Pickens A Perfect Fit For Browns

George Pickens, Browns, NFL Draft

The Cleveland Browns’ offense is going to look a lot different in 2022 than it did during the 2021 season. They underwent some major changes on that side of the ball with the biggest one coming under center.

Baker Mayfield is no longer the starting quarterback in Cleveland as that job will now be handled by Deshaun Watson. The Browns traded for the Houston Texans superstar this offseason despite no resolution being reached yet on the lawsuits pending against him.

But, they already have contingency plans in place in case he is suspended. Jacoby Brissett was signed to be his backup and his contract was re-worked in a way that he won’t lose nearly as much money should he miss games.

The team revamped the pass catchers that whoever is under center will be targeting as well. Amari Cooper was acquired from the Dallas Cowboys, who had to move on from him because of salary cap restraints. The Browns benefited as they now have a bonafide No. 1 option in the passing game to get the ball to.

However, the depth behind him is lacking. Veteran Jarvis Landry was released this offseason as well, leaving Rashad Higgins and Donovan Peoples-Jones behind Cooper on the depth chart. Before trading their first-round pick as part of the package for Watson, the Browns were mocked a wide receiver at their selection.

While Cleveland won’t be on the clock until the 44th pick, the need remains. One NFL scout that talked to NFL Analysis Network believes that Georgia wide receiver George Pickens is a perfect fit for the Browns at that spot.

“I think Cleveland would still like to add more firepower for Deshaun Watson. There’s a guy in the second round that I like for them. George Pickens would be a perfect long-term weapon for the Browns.”

Pickens exploded onto the scene at Georgia with a strong freshman season, catching 49 passes for 727 yards and eight touchdowns. He looked like a bonafide No. 1 receiver in the making, but unfortunately, he was unable to replicate those stats.

Injuries limited Pickens to 12 games the next two seasons as more than half of his collegiate production came during that rookie season. Working his way back from a torn ACL suffered last spring to play in the final four games of the 2021 season was impressive, but the injuries are certainly a concern.

The talent is there to be a difference-maker, evident in his first season on campus. If he can remain healthy, he has a chance to be one of the steals of the draft given his skill set and length that he uses to his advantage.
