Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has quickly proven all of his doubters wrong. Since taking over as the team’s starter in 2021, Jalen Hurts has quickly turned the Eagles into perennial contenders in the NFC.
In 2021, he relied mostly on his legs while leading Philadelphia to a Wild Card spot. Last season, after the front office acquired star wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans, it was his passing performance that took off.
Jalen Hurts ended up finishing second in the MVP race in 2022 as he put together a dominant season. Not only did he lead the Eagles to the best record in the NFL, as they went 14-1 when he started, his stats took a huge jump.
He completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 3,701 yards with 22 touchdowns and only six interceptions. His 20 approximate value at Pro-Football-Focus was the highest in the NFL last season. Jalen Hurts also led the league with 99 designed runs, rushing a total of 165 times for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns.
What could the former Alabama and Oklahoma product have in store for the 2023 season? An NFL scout that spoke to NFL Analysis Network believes another monster season is on the horizon in Philadelphia.
“I’m expecting another sizable leap for Jalen Hurts in 2023. My prediction for him would be 50 total touchdowns. I think that goal is more than attainable for him this year.”
It is fair to assume, based on that prediction, that the scout is expecting to see a major leap in passing production from Jalen Hurts in 2023. Quarterback rushing touchdown numbers historically aren’t sustainable at the level that he has provided, which would mean nearly 40 passing touchdowns coming.
If Jalen Hurts can approach those numbers, he will once again factor into the MVP race. The Eagles are also going to win a lot of games if the offense is producing at that effective of a level.
