The Indianapolis Colts took Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick of the NFL Draft back in the spring fully expecting that the quarterback would transform their franchise.

An NFL scout tells the NFL Analysis Network that is exactly what Richardson is capable of doing.

“Look, the kid simply has it,” the scout said. “He has that superstar potential that many NFL quarterbacks don’t have. If he can stay healthy, the Colts have a guy who can lead them to Super Bowl contention for years to come.”

Richardson certainly looked to be playing the part in his first two games of his rookie campaign, throwing for 279 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 75 yards and three scores. However, he suffered a concussion in the club’s Week 2 win over the Houston Texans and exited the game. He was also sidelined during Indianapolis’ victory over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. Gardner Minshew stepped in to replace Richardson.

The good news is that Richardson appears set to return for the Colts’ Week 5 matchup with the Tennessee Titans this Sunday.

Richardson played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, spending three years with the Gators. He did not become the full-time starter until his final season there, when he threw for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 53.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 131. In addition, he rushed for 654 yards and nine scores, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

The 21-year-old was considered very raw coming out of college, but scouts could not deny the potential of the 6-foot-4, 232-pounder with terrific athleticism.

Indianapolis has gotten off to a 2-1 start and plays in the very winnable AFC South division, so Anthony Richardson may be playing a lot of meaningful football this season.
