Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots have been very busy this offseason from the get-go. It is clear that they were unhappy with missing the playoffs last season and are doing everything in their power to get back there in 2021. They also still have the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft to improve their roster.
So far this offseason, the Patriots have re-signed quarterback Cam Newton, re-signed running back James White, signed tight end Jonnu Smith, signed tight end Hunter Henry, and signed wide receiver Nelson Agholor. However, there are still moves that New England would love to make on the defensive side of the football.
Looking ahead to the NFL Draft, there is one defensive player the Patriots would love to snag. An NFL scout spoke to NFL Analysis Network about New England’s interest in Michigan defensive end Kwity Paye.
“Kwity Paye is someone I think the Patriots are going to go after. They need help on the defensive line and he would make a huge impact immediately. He is a big body who can get to the quarterback and help against the run and would fit in with the New England defense perfectly.”
During the COVID-19-shortened 2020 college football season with Michigan, Paye ended up recording 16 total tackles to go along with two sacks. Back in 2019, however, he racked up 50 total tackles and 6.5 sacks.
Paye still has a lot of room to develop. He is nowhere near the talent that he has the potential to become. If the Patriots choose to take him in the NFL Draft, they will be able to develop him and bring him along over the next few years.
Standing in at 6-foot-4 and just over 270 pounds, Kwity Paye is a big body who will wreak havoc on opposing offensive lines at the NFL level. If the Patriots want to bring in an impact player defensively with the No. 15 overall pick, Paye could be the guy they target.
Expect to see Belichick come through with another great draft this year. Paye may not be who they end up taking in the first round, but he would make a whole lot of sense.
