NFL scout reveals one intriguing weapon the Packers could target

The Green Bay Packers have been very quiet so far in free agency and the fans are starting to get a bit anxious. After falling short once again in the NFC Championship Game, this time to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, many fans expected more from the franchise in free agency.

So far, the Packers have lost Corey Linsley to the Los Angeles Chargers, moved on from linebacker Christian Kirksey and offensive lineman Rick Wagner, and have not made any major additions.

Granted, they were able to re-sign star running back Aaron Jones. They also brought back cornerback Kevin King on a one-year deal, which was a very polarizing move for Packers fans. King was torched by the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game.

However, there is still plenty of time for the Packers to make a move or two. One NFL scout thinks they could target a very intriguing weapon for Aaron Rodgers and the offense.

“Green Bay has been quite, as they were expected to be all along. (Brian) Gutekunst is looking for some bargains and one name would be very interesting for them. Cordarrelle Patterson is still a free agent and the Packers have had interest in him before. That is a name I’d keep an eye on for Green Bay.”

Last season with the Chicago Bears, Patterson once again had a very strange and inconsistent role in Matt Nagy’s offense. He caught 21 passes for 132 yards on the year. Patterson also carried the ball 64 times for 232 yards and a touchdown.

Can you imagine a guy with the speed and athleticism that Patterson possesses being a gadget player for the Packers? Matt LaFleur utilized Tyler Ervin beautifully before he got hurt. Patterson would be a major upgrade.

In addition to being a gadget player, the Packers could play Patterson more as a receiver. They need a slot wideout and Patterson could be that guy.

At 30 years of age, Patterson will be looking to join a contender. He will also be looking for a more consistent role. That could be found in an offense like the Packers deploy and with a quarterback like Rodgers.

Expect to see the Packers get more active in the latter stages of free agency. They were never going to spend huge money on outside free agents, but a bargain like Cordarrelle Patterson would be worth taking a risk on.
