NFL scout reveals the one free agent the Packers should target

The Green Bay Packers made a massive move just before the beginning of NFL free agency. Aaron Jones was set to hit the open market, but the Packers were able to lock him up to a four-year, $48 million deal. Now, they need to look to make more moves to improve their roster.

One position that they need to focus on improving is cornerback. Kevin King was torched in the NFC Championship Game last season and is expected to leave town in free agency. That will leave a void across from Jaire Alexander that the Packers need to fill.

An NFL scout spoke to NFL Analysis Network about the one free agent that the Packers should target this offseason after locking up Jones.

“Brining (Aaron) Jones back was the right move and they did so at a very good price. Next, they need to look the defensive side of the ball, specifically cornerback. Richard Sherman is exactly what they need and he could come at a reasonable price as well to join a contender like the Packers.”

Sherman would absolutely be a perfect fit for the Packers. There are a lot of teams that could use him, but joining a Super Bowl contender will likely be something that he is looking for in free agency. If the Packers come with a reasonable offer, it would make sense.

Last season with the San Francisco 49ers, Sherman ended up playing in just five games before an injury ended his year. He had recorded 18 total tackles, one interception, and a defended pass. Back in 2019, he racked up 61 tackles, three interceptions, one defensive touchdown, and 11 defended passes.

Even at 32 years old, Richard Sherman is playing at a very high level. He is still more than capable of being an above average No. 2 cornerback. There is no doubt that he would be a big upgrade over King for the Packers.

Many think that wide receiver is a huge need for Green Bay. However, they have Devin Funchess returning, who was a free agency acquisition last offseason but chose to sit out the 2020 season due to the pandemic. Adding a cornerback is a much bigger need.

Expect to see the Packers look to make a move or two in free agency. They don’t have much cap space, but they could find ways to move some money around. Sherman would be a very intriguing target for Green Bay.
