The San Francisco 49ers have really been coming into their own in the last few weeks. They are currently riding a four-game winning streak, rising to the top of the NFC West and looking like legitimate contenders to represent the conference in the Super Bowl.
We will learn a lot about San Francisco next week when they host the Miami Dolphins in a matchup between two teams looking to cement themselves among the elite teams in the league. Is there a chance that the 49ers will have a new addition to the roster by that point?
The Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes are officially underway after it was announced that he received full clearance and a bill of health. It was reported that he would make his decision about what team to join after Thanksgiving, so that could be coming very soon.
There have been a lot of reports that Beckham will sign with either the Dallas Cowboys or New York Giants, who faced off on Thanksgiving, with the Cowboys coming out victorious, 28-20. However, one NFL scout that spoke to NFL Analysis Network would not count out the 49ers.
“I know the 49ers and (Odell) Beckham Jr. have talked. With the way they’re playing right now, they should be viewed as a very serious threat to sign him as a dark horse.”
San Francisco already has an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions offensively. They acquired running back Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers ahead of the trade deadline, adding him to the backfield mix along with Elijah Mitchell, who recently returned from injury.
At wide receiver, the 49ers already have Brandon Aiyuk emerging and All-Pro do-it-all ace Deebo Samuel. Jauan Jennings has also been good as the No. 3 receiver, making the most of his limited chance in a run-first offense. Not to mention, all-world tight end George Kittle remains in the mix as well.
If Beckham is focused solely on winning, the 49ers are certainly an intriguing option. However, the opportunities to produce in San Francisco would certainly be limited compared to other teams that he could join.
