With the recent addition of Cam Newton to the New England Patriots, the AFC East race just got a lot more interesting.
Looking at some of the other quarterbacks in the division, it’s hard to say any of them are clearly better than Newton. Josh Allen has all the physical attributes to be a great quarterback, but his inconsistent accuracy along with his subpar decision making skills leaves a lot to be desired.
Sam Darnold of the New York Jets seems like he could be primed for a breakout year as he prepares for his third NFL season. He was touted by many as the best quarterback coming out of the 2018 NFL Draft, but he hasn’t come close to living up to those expectations, yet.
With a re-tooled offensive line in front of him, a few new weapons on the outside to work with and a premiere running back in Le’Veon Bell behind him, there’s really no excuse for Darnold this season.
Will he establish himself as the best quarterback in the division? With Newton in the fold, it’ll take a superb season out of Darnold for that sentiment to even be considered.
