NFL Writer Provides Best Potential Packers’ Replacement For Jordan Love

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love could be walking on thin ice, as he has fallen off considerably after a relatively hot start to the season.

While Love’s job under center seems safe for the rest of this year, it’s entirely possible that the Packers could look elsewhere for a signal-caller for 2024 if Love doesn’t improve his play over these next couple of months.

John Buhler of FanSided has put together a list of six names that could potentially replace Love next season, and on the list are established talents like Kirk Cousins and Kyler Murray as well as players that are currently in college.

Buhler’s top candidate to step in for Love next year is University of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

McCarthy is enjoying a rather scintillating junior campaign for the Wolverines, as he has thrown for 1,799 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 78.1 percent of his passes. He has also rushed for 168 yards and three scores while averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

At 6-foot-3 and about 200 pounds, McCarthy is a dual threat and is considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the country.

The question is, will the Packers finish with a bad enough record in order to get a shot of taking McCarthy?

Green Bay is currently 2-5 and is in the midst of a four-game losing streak heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. The Packers looked decent early on, starting off 2-1 as Love thrown seven touchdowns and just one interception over his first three games, but since then, Love has totaled four touchdowns and seven picks.

Jordan Love is in his first year as the full-time starter at signal-caller following the departure of Aaron Rodgers, who has been Green Bay’s starting quarterback since 2008.

The 24-year-old has flashed some potential this season, but he has also endured his fair share of struggles with has many questioning his legitimacy as the future answer for the Packers.
