There has been a lot of speculation about what the Seattle Seahawks are going to do at the quarterback position this season. They traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster deal, which resulted in all of these questions being asked.

Some people believe that the team isn’t done making moves, as they will eventually trade for Baker Mayfield, who is no longer the starter in Cleveland after the Browns acquire Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. Seattle could also opt to add a quarterback during the 2022 NFL Draft, with Malik Willis being a popular prediction.

But, the team could also give Drew Lock one more chance to be the starter. Lock was acquired in the trade package from the Broncos, along with tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris and a multitude of draft picks.

Lock hasn’t been great when given the chance to start in Denver. He showed some promise during his rookie season, going 4-1, but he is 4-12 since. The 42nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Lock has struggled with accuracy and turnover issues. Despite starting only 13 games in 2020, Lock led the NFL with 15 interceptions thrown.

Despite his regression the last two years, Lock has the tools to be a good quarterback in the NFL. He has prototypical size and a huge arm, so there is certainly something to work with there. Fant believes that the trade to the Seahawks will help Lock get things on track.

“Drew’s biggest attribute is his arm. He’s made some insane throw in the time that we’ve played together. He has all the talent in the world. . . . I think he has all the opportunity and all the talent in the world to get it done and be that franchise guy.”

Denver didn’t have bad weapons surrounding Lock, but D.K. Metcalf is a quarterback’s dream. His size, athleticism and physicality lead to some impressive plays at every level of the field and Lock would certainly benefit from throwing him the ball.

Opposite of him is another strong receiver in Tyler Lockett, who has broken the 1,000-yard plateau in three consecutive seasons. That is a great duo to be throwing the ball to and Seattle has a strong running game led by Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny to lean on.

Should he be given the chance to start, the pieces are in place for Lock to succeed in Seattle. This could very well be his last chance at earning a full-time starting job, so he will have to make the most of his opportunity.
