Oakland Raiders: 3 Bold Predictions for Derek Carr in 2018

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Derek Carr is a Finalist for the MVP Award

Raiders fans will tell you that Carr got robbed of the MVP award in 2016 because he broke his leg in Week 16 against the Colts. During that 2016 campaign, Carr led the Raiders to a 12-3 record with 3,937 yards, 28 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also led the league with seven comeback victories in the fourth quarter or overtime. He was on another level.

In 2018, Carr is going to do everything within his power to finally get his hands on the award that eluded his grasp. His teammates have been saying that there is something different about him this offseason. Perhaps it is Gruden firing him up and getting the most out of him. Maybe it is simply Carr finally feeling like he is ready to take the next step as he enters the true prime of his career. Regardless, Carr has a new edge about him and clearly has a chip on his shoulder.

With his new mentality, a competent and accomplished coach supporting him, and plenty of talent around him, Carr is more than poised to make a run at winning MVP. Individual stats are one thing, expect Carr to put up numbers with ease. However, winning is clearly the most important factor in winning MVP. If Carr can keep the Raiders in the win column, MVP is well within his reach.
