Gareon Conley can’t shake the injury bug
Former first-round pick cornerback Gareon Conley is starting to become known as an injury prone player. All offseason the Raiders had been careful with Conley to ensure his health remained intact. However, on the very first day of training camp Conley suffered an injury making a break on a ball. The very thing the team tried so hard to prevent came to pass. Conley’s constant injuries are giving Raider nation some bad deja vu. It reminds them of when DJ Hayden would constantly be injured.
Conley has been receiving a lot of slack all year for his health. That’s just the reality of high draft picks who are always unavailable. Conley is a very talented player, but we might not even get to enjoy watching him in coverage often because he’s always injured. He missed the first preseason game against the Detroit Lions, but got back in time for the second game against the Los Angeles Rams.
He’s looked fantastic in all of his snaps since his return, but I can’t help feeling paranoid about him. Anytime he goes for a tackle will be met with concern. His recent injury is disappointing because this was supposed to be his year. Full of highlights and health. Now it seems inevitable that he’ll be injured again this season. Conley needs to rewrite that narrative. The only way to do it is by performing at a high level. Injuries are out of his hand, but if he strings along some great plays then everyone will envy him.
