Khalil Mack’s holdout
Khalil Mack’s holdout was inevitable and the only logical move for him. The Raiders had over a year to figure out their contract situation with Mack. From hashing out the numbers to budgeting the money to ensure Mack gets his well-deserved deal. However, this isn’t about Mack at all. Sure, he is holding out with the hope that he gets the kind of deal Aaron Donald received.
But this is about Gruden and owner Mark Davis. Gruden is the one with the final say on everything that goes down with the players. He could very well not be comfortable with tying so much money into one defensive player. It also could be that Mark Davis just doesn’t have the funds. It’s not like he has any other income besides the team. It’s not so much disappointing that Khalil Mack himself is holding out, but the details surrounding it.
From Mack’s standpoint, I see no issue. Go get your money while your value is at its peak. It’s disappointing how the Raiders are going about this. They likely are going down this path because they have total control of Mack. The final year of his deal and the option of franchise tagging. It makes sense all around. That still doesn’t change the disappointing fact that the Raiders had all this time to figure out. It just makes me believe that Gruden is the one stalling the deal since he’s the biggest change to the team in the last year.
