Running Backs
There are two main running backs that come to mind when looking at the Raiders. Obviously, Marshawn Lynch is the first, but the second string Doug Martin is a name to keep tabs on. Heading into the season, Lynch is the starter, but as the year drowns on, Martin could provide a lot of value to fantasy players.
Last season, Lynch finished 24th among running backs in fantasy scoring. Heading into 2018 he is the consensus 30th ranked running back with an ADP of 74. Now for what it is worth, I think that is a little bit low and that Lynch is worth taking higher than that. There will be a lot of opportunity for Lynch this season assuming he stays healthy and still has his legs. Gruden has brought in a blocking tight end in Keith Smith and the Raiders’ offensive line is as good as they come. He may not reach 1,000 yards, but he will find the endzone quite a few times.
Advice: Lynch isn’t an RB1, but is a top-tier RB2 and will get plenty of looks. Don’t be afraid to take him higher than 74th.
In addition to Lynch, Doug Martin is an interesting name to keep an eye on as a late season bloomer. I am not advocating for players to draft Martin, unless possibly in 12-person leagues where running backs are premium. However, Martin is a name to watch on the waiver wire, especially in case of injury to Lynch. Martin is currently 53rd ranked running back and number 155 overall in terms of ADP.
Jalen Richard is another name to look for on the wire if injuries appear. But realistically, just keep Martin on the back-burner as a potential late season candidate.
Advice: Keep Martin’s name in the back of your head, especially if he earns more carries as the season moves on.
