3. Fields Throws 40 Touchdowns
This might not seem like a bold prediction given the fact that Fields threw 41 touchdowns as a sophomore. Let’s not forget that the Big Ten announced that they will only be playing conference games this season. This means that Ohio State’s games against Bowling Green, Oregon, and Buffalo have been cancelled.
In conference play last season, including the Big Ten Championship Game, Fields threw 30 touchdowns. There are currently nine games on the Buckeyes’ 2020 schedule. This does not include the Big Ten title game and possibly two games in the college football playoff. All together, Ohio State could play a total of 12 games which is two less than the 14 they played last season.
Fields has the weapons to succeed. He will improve as a passer and become more accurate during his junior year. Day runs an offense that is fast paced and like to get chunk plays. If this was a full season, the prediction would have been for Fields to join Haskins in the 50 touchdown club. With three games cut off the schedule, he will have to settle for 40.
