The Oklahoma Sooners have been one of the long-term powerhouse teams in college football. Year in and year out, they seem to continue putting together big-time recruiting classes to keep them at the top of the Big 12. Once again, the 2021 recruiting class is shaping up to be a very good one, with wide receiver Cody Jackson being one of the most intriguing players.

Jackson may not be a household name among Oklahoma fans just yet, but it won’t take him long to get there. A four-star wide receiver commit to the Sooners in the 2021 class, Jackson has legitimate superstar potential for the future.

According to his MaxPreps page, Jackson put together a massive junior season at Foster High School in Richmond, Texas. He caught 64 passes for 1,370 yards and 18 touchdowns in 13 games. Those numbers show a bit of the talent that Jackson possesses.

Standing in at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, Jackson compares favorably to recent fan favorites at Oklahoma. Some view him as a CeeDee Lamb type of player, while others think he’s more like Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

All of that being said, our own Evan Massey had the chance to interview Cody Jackson. For those who haven’t seen him play, don’t know much about him, or want to hear from the man himself, we have you covered.

First up, we wanted to find out what made Jackson commit to the Sooners. He was happy to share the main factors in the decision.

“I chose Oklahoma because I felt that my style of play fits their offense perfectly. Coach Lincoln Riley and Coach Dennis Simmons were recruiting me hard ever since they gave me the offer and it felt like home every time I stepped on campus!”

Speaking of Jackson’s game, he opened up about what he will bring to the field.

“I’d describe myself as a playmaker. In other words, a player that’s going to get you the big gain whenever you need it. I’ll be giving my all every time I step on the field. That’s for sure!”

Jackson is much more than just a football player and he shared with us who he is when he isn’t playing the game he loves.

“Away from football I’m really a fun person to hang with. I love going out with friends and being around family! I also like to try new things out, go new places, and meet new people. However, sometimes I’ll just chill in the house and play games all day when there’s nothing else to do. I really just like to have fun.”

As previously mentioned, Jackson compares to some recent Sooners’ fan favorites. He shared who he thinks he compares to the most.

“Well a lot of people compare me to CeeDee Lamb, but I feel that I’m a mixture of CeeDee and Hollywood Brown because I have some things that CeeDee doesn’t but that Hollywood does. I feel me and CeeDee have a similar style of play and our movement resembles a lot.”

Jackson also opened up with his thoughts on Oklahoma’s 2021 recruiting class and has a couple other names for fans to keep a close eye on.

“This recruiting class has a chance to be the #1 recruiting class. It’s crazy right now, but if we get the people that we are recruiting, then it’s going to be even crazier. Just a few names are Caleb Willams, Bryce Foster, and Christian Leary.”

While it is still early, we wanted to know what goals Jackson has set for his career at Oklahoma already. The Sooners will be excited to hear what he has to say.

“The team goal should be the same for everyone, which is to come together and form a brotherhood/family and win a national championship. My individual goal is to come in and make an impact on the team and get better while being coached by the best coaches.”

At this point in his career, Jackson talked about what his biggest strengths and weaknesses are.

“I feel my biggest strengths are my speed, route running, and having IQ of the game of football. I don’t feel like I have weaknesses but I have room for improvements throughout my whole entire game.”

If you’re a young wide receiver with dreams of playing college football, Jackson has some advice for you.

“Don’t stop grinding! Stay working everyday on speed mainly. Coaches love speed!”

In closing, Jackson shared a message to the Sooners’ fan base. It is a message that fans will love to see and will make Jackson’s arrival on campus a much anticipated moment.

“I love all my fans and we have something special coming to Norman! BOOMER!!!!”
