NFL: One second-year player to watch from each team in the NFC West

Los Angeles Rams — Taylor Rapp

Versatile safeties have become a valuable asset to have in the NFL and the Los Angeles Rams have one that could break out in 2020. Following the retirement of Eric Weddle, the Rams knew that Taylor Rapp would end up being the veteran safety’s replacement.

Rapp, Los Angeles’ second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, is a movable chess piece for a defense. As a rookie with the Rams in 2019, Rapp recorded 100 combined tackles, eight pass breakups, and two interceptions.

Even though he’ll be listed as a strong safety, Rapp will likely be utilized in a variety of ways under new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. While Darrell Henderson should see an expanded role on offense, Rapp could evolve into one of the best safeties in the NFC West in 2020 — and possibly in the entire NFL.
