Golden Tate, New York Giants
Golden Tate isn’t in the top echelon of NFL wide receivers. He seems a bit too talented to have played for four franchises in his 10-year career though.
Whether it’s been with the Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, or the New York Giants, Tate has always had the potential to positively impact his offense.
In 11 games in 2019, Tate brought in 49 catches for 676 yards and six touchdowns. Overshadowing his production was rookie receiver Darius Slayton who turned in 48 receptions, 740 yards and eight touchdowns, in 14 total games with nine starts.
Pacing the second-year receiver’s numbers from fourteen games, Slayton’s production translates to 55 receptions, 846 yards, and nine touchdowns.
The Giants only clear $3 million in cap space by moving Tate. They gain more in their future when you consider the money it frees up down the road. Combined this with the draft pick or player they could get in return, and the potential sells itself.
Then there’s growth potential from Slayton stepping in as a full-time starter to build on what he and Jones accomplished in 2019. Could be better than David Tyree and Eli Manning if you ask me.
