Packers 2020 Free Agency Target: LB Danny Trevathan

Should The Packers Pursue Danny Trevathan This Offseason?

Green Bay has had the chance to see Danny Trevathan up close and personal over the last few years during his time with the Chicago Bears. Anyone that has watched Trevathan knows what he brings to the field. He is a hard worker, can play sideline to sideline, and is a very hard hitter and sure tackler.

During the 2019 season with the Bears, Trevathan ended up compiling 70 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one defended pass. Those numbers came in just nine regular season games.

Putting up that kind of production in just over half of a season is impressive. The Packers need more athleticism at linebacker and Trevathan would be that for them. Mike Pettine’s system would also fit Trevathan very well.

Gutekunst won’t have the kind of money to play with that he had last offseason. He won’t be able to hand out multiple massive contracts. Thankfully, Trevathan isn’t the kind of free agent that would break the bank for Green Bay.

If the Packers want to add an upgrade at linebacker, Trevathan would be a legitimate option. There may be a better fit out there for Green Bay, but they should take a long look at this option.

Signing a player like Trevathan would not only help the Packers’ defense, but it would also feel even sweeter to be able to steal him from the Bears.
