Packers: 3 late trade targets ahead of the 2020 NFL season

There’s no doubt that the Packers would be best adding another wide receiver before the 2020 season gets underway. However, to say they should feel confident at the tight end position is a stretch. Following the release of Jimmy Graham, Green Bay is hoping that Jace Sternberger can immediately become a viable option in the aerial attack.

Sternberger, the Packers’ third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, failed to log a single stat during the regular season in 2019. With that being said, he would catch three passes for 15 yards and a touchdown in Green Bay’s journey to the NFC Championship Game. But with Sternberger being placed on the COVID-19 reserve list and the uncertainty surrounding his development, adding a tight end could be beneficial for the Packers.

Taking that into consideration, Green Bay should consider calling the Los Angeles Rams to inquire about Gerald Everett. Everett has proven that he can be a mismatch for opposing defenses due to his receiving ability, catching 86 passes for 972 yards and seven touchdowns in his first three seasons. However, his role with the Rams is up in the air after they re-signed Tyler Higbee last offseason and took Brycen Hopkins in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Last season, Everett produced an aDOT of 8.1 yards, which was 10th among TEs that saw 60+ targets. As a result, that shows that Everett can stretch the field from the slot or even move outside to create mismatches with smaller cornerbacks. While fans want a wide receiver, Everett would still be a welcomed addition for Rodgers and the Packers.
