Packers Could Move On From Talented Young WR After Season

After decades of being Super Bowl contenders, or at least relevant, the Green Bay Packers are in uncharted territory: the territory of rebuilding.

They have a first-time starting quarterback in Jordan Love, who hasn’t quite excelled, at least not yet, and a number of young wide receivers they’re hoping to develop for the future.

But none of those wideouts seem to be anything special, and Alex Ballentine of Beacher Report wrote that the Packers should get rid of Samori Toure this offseason in order to make room for someone who is more experienced and will make more of an impact.

“The former seventh-round pick should be applauded for finding a way to make the team in each of the past two seasons, but it’s becoming clear that the Packers have other young receivers who are worth investing in,” wrote Ballentine.

“What the Packers need is a veteran who can come in and provide a spark for the passing game. There isn’t much money to be gained from cutting Toure, but it’s just about $1 million and they would have an open spot for a receiver on the active roster.

“Between Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, the Packers really don’t have a need for keeping Toure on the roster.”

NFL News & Rumors: Samori Toure, Green Bay Packers Updates

Toure was a seventh-round draft pick in 2022 after stints of college football at the University of Montana and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In two NFL seasons, he has caught just 10 passes out of 21 targets for 144 yards and one touchdown.

Green Bay has just one player who has as many as 400 receiving yards so far this season — Jayden Reed, a rookie who is at 463 receiving yards and four touchdowns off 32 catches.

Love has already thrown 10 interceptions in nine games this season, and if he is to have any shot at becoming an adequate NFL signal-caller, let alone a franchise-caliber signal-caller, the team must get him some reliable and productive playmakers.

With a 4-6 record and after losing five of their last seven games, they have just a slim shot of getting into the playoffs.

If they are to end up executing a successful rebuilding project, it must start right now with the right decisions. They haven’t been in this situation since perhaps the 1980s, and cheeseheads could be in for a long, rough ride.
