The Green Bay Packers are going to be a very intriguing team to keep an eye on this offseason. While they may not have a ton of cap space, general manager Brian Gutekunst has been vocal that they can create some for the right player. That right player could end up being free agent wide receiver Marvin Jones.

According to one NFL scout, the Packers could look at pursuing Jones when free agency opens up to be their No. 2 wideout behind Davante Adams.

“For the Packers, adding a wide receiver will be something they look at. I’ve heard Marvin Jones as a potential target. He’s not going to break the bank, but he could be exactly what Aaron Rodgers has been needing.”

Jones had another good season with the Detroit Lions in 2020. He racked up 76 receptions for 978 yards and nine touchdowns. Those numbers went relatively unheralded, but he has set himself up nicely for free agency.

For the Packers, Jones would represent a legitimate No. 2 weapon for Aaron Rodgers. The 2020 NFL MVP needs more help. Adams is arguably the best wide receiver in the game, but he can’t do it all by himself.

Green Bay also could suffer some big losses on the offensive side of the football this offseason. Both Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are free agents at running back and All-Pro center Corey Linsley is also a free agent. Losing those guys would be a big-time setback.

In order to help offset the setback of losing those players, Jones could be targeted. The Packers feel confident that second-year running back AJ Dillon can start if needed, but the wide receiver corps needs to be improved.

No one would go crazy about this signing, but it could be the best fit for the Packers. Will Fuller, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and TY Hilton are the flashier names that have been mentioned as potential targets for Green Bay. All three of those guys are going to cost a lot more than Jones would.

Expect to hear a lot more in the rumor mill about the Packers. Marvin Jones may not end up being the target for Green Bay, but it would make a lot of sense.
