Packers Could Pursue WR Will Fuller In NFL Free Agency

The Green Bay Packers’ offseason plans will hinge on what quarterback Aaron Rodgers decides to do. If he wants to retire or leave the team, they will have to adjust accordingly, likely no longer being contenders.

However, if he commits to the team for another season, they will go all-in on trying to win a Super Bowl next season. There are some salary cap issues to iron out, so the sooner the better when it comes to figuring out what Rodgers is going to do.

If they run things back, they will likely restructure some contracts and kick the money down the line so that they can make upgrades to the roster for the 2022 season. One of the positions that could require some help is wide receiver.

All-world receiver Davante Adams is heading into free agency. The team is likely going to franchise tag him, but if he were to leave, that would create a huge void for the team offensively. Finding a consistent No. 2 behind him has been one of the issues Rodgers has had with the organization and it will be a need once again this offseason.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a free agent and he may be able to cash in on a lucrative deal elsewhere. His ability to get behind a defense for big plays is rivaled by few in the league and there is a role for him on virtually every team in the league.

If the Packers are unable to retain him, 2021 third-round pick Amari Rodgers would be thrust into a larger role alongside Allen Lazard. CBS Sports believes the team would bring on another veteran as well to help fill the void with Will Fuller V.

Fuller signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins for the 2021 season but barely got on the field. His injury history is extensive, but when healthy, he can be a true go-to receiver.

Fuller has missed at least five games every season in his career outside of his rookie campaign, so the injury red flags are warranted. Green Bay would have to make sure they have the necessary depth behind him, but when he is on the field, he could be a real difference-maker opposite of Adams.

The Notre Dame product has the speed to take the top off of a defense, averaging 14.9 yards per reception with the Houston Texans before an injury-laden season with the Dolphins. But, he also possesses the skill set to be a position receiver, offering more than just a deep threat.

Fuller would fill the deep threat void left by Valdes-Scantling, but bring a more developed route tree to the mix. He would be able to take advantage of the extra attention that Adams receives that other wide receivers previously were unable to.
