Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers cleared up some things on Wednesday afternoon during his appearance on the Pat McAfee. The biggest takeaway was his plans for the 2023 season.
The future Hall of Famer let it be known that he has every intention to play in 2023, but it won’t be with the Packers. Instead, Rodgers is intending to play with the New York Jets and is just awaiting the franchises to work out compensation for a deal.
Green Bay is reportedly looking for two first-round picks in exchange for him and has no problem waiting things out until they receive what they are seeking. During his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said that he has made his intentions clear since last week and that communication could have been better between both sides.
Eventually, Rodgers will be traded to the Jets. It will be the end of an era for the Packers, who will be trading a future Hall of Famer to New York once again. This is similar to how things played out at the end of Brett Favre’s tenure in Green Bay, who was also traded to the Jets.
While his admission about wanting to play with the Jets is dominating the headlines, there were other tidbits worth touching on in the interview. One interesting takeaway was the praise that he gave Jordan Love, who will presumably be taking over as the Packers’ starting quarterback.
Love was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Packers traded up to select him, which was the start of their relationship with Rodgers began souring. Motivated to prove he had plenty left in the tank, Rodgers won the MVP award for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Now heading into Year 4, it is time for Love to show the organization what he has got. He hasn’t had many opportunities outside of the preseason, but will now have a full season to prove to the Packers that he should be their long-term answer at quarterback.
