The Green Bay Packers are going to be a team to keep an eye on with the NFL trade deadline coming up soon. Aaron Rodgers and company look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but they could use more offensive weapons. Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku could be an ideal fit.
Njoku has been wanting a trade from the Browns since the beginning of the season. Green Bay has been listed as a potential trade destination for the young tight end.
Danny Cunningham of Complex gave a brief explanation for why Njoku could be a good fit for the Packers at the trade deadline.
The versatility of Njoku as a receiver as well as a tight end boosts his value a bit here. We’ve already mentioned the Packers as needing more weapons for Aaron Rodgers on the outside, and while Njoku isn’t Julio Jones, he’s a viable threat in the intermediate passing game as well as the red zone.
Green Bay may not have interest in trading for a tight end. They have been very happy with the production they have received from Robert Tonyan. The Packers would be much better off making a trade for a wide receiver.
Njoku has played in three games for the Browns this season. He has caught five passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. There simply isn’t much of a role for him with both Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant ahead of him.
At just 24 years old, Njoku will be an intriguing name to watch at the deadline. There are quite a few teams who could use some help at the tight end position. While the Packers may not show interest, they could be a buyer.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding the Packers as the trade deadline draws closer. David Njoku could be a name to watch, although he wouldn’t fix the Packers’ main issue of speed at the wide receiver position.
