Packers Make Intriguing Move To Shore Up Offensive Line

All of the focus this offseason has been on the quarterback position for the Green Bay Packers. They traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, which means the official start of the Jordan Love era in Green Bay.

If the Packers want Love to be in a position to find as much success early as possible, they knew they had to upgrade the supporting cast around him. After not signing a single offensive skill position player during free agency, the team got to work on upgrading the weapons during the 2023 NFL Draft.

Green Bay selected two tight ends, three wide receivers and one running back to bolster the skill positions. The Packers are going to be one of the youngest teams in the NFL at tight end and wide receiver, but there is a good mix of skills and talent that can hopefully develop.

Alas, if any of those players are to find real success, the Packers have to win in the trenches. Having a good offensive line is key to the offense running like a well-oiled machine. Looking to find some useful depth, Green Bay dipped into waivers to take a shot on DJ Scaife.

Scaife went undrafted but signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins on May 12th. He took part in their rookie minicamp but he was unable to get much of an extended look with so much roster turnover that he was released after participating in their rookie minicamp.

The Packers didn’t waste any time making a move to bring him in, claiming him on Tuesday. Scaife brings a ton of experience to the table, appearing in 61 games over five seasons collegiately at Miami (FL), starting 52 of them.

A majority of his time with the Hurricanes was spent at tackle, as he played on both the left and right side. While that was certainly some good experience to gain, Scaife’s future at the next level likely lies on the interior at guard where his limited size and length won’t be as much of a detriment.
