Packers predicted to select LSU LB Patrick Queen at No. 30 in the NFL Draft

Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers are going to be looking for pure talent in the 2020 NFL Draft. There are a few positions that they need to focus on, but they are just a piece or two away from competing for a Super Bowl. Now, it appears that LSU linebacker Patrick Queen could be an ideal fit at No. 30 overall.

NFL.com released a new mock draft with their predictions for who the Packers will take with their first-round selection. Queen ended up being the pick.

Queen fills a big hole in the middle of the Packers’ defense, assuming they lose Blake Martinez in free agency.

As the quote noted, Blake Martinez is a free agent this offseason. He has been a sure tackler throughout his NFL career, but there have been major concerns about his ability to play sideline to sideline. Adding more athleticism seems to be a goal for Green Bay.

Queen would be a huge addition for the middle of the Packers’ defense. In 2019 with LSU, he racked up 85 total tackles, three sacks, one fumble recovery, one interception, and two defended passes.

If the Packers were to draft Queen, they would be getting an athletic player who also comes top-notch leadership skills. Martinez also took on a leadership role and they will need to replace that if he does walk in free agency. That is another reason Queen would make perfect sense.

Standing in at 6-foot-1 and nearly 230 pounds, Queen would add great physicality and speed. Green Bay needed that speed in a big way against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Gutekunst couldn’t miss with this pick.

Expect to see the Packers consider linebacker, wide receiver, and possibly tight end or quarterback at No. 30. Queen seems like a great fit and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him end up with the green and gold.
