Packers Predicted To Sign Big-Time Offensive Piece In Free Agency

A lot of the focus this offseason for the Green Bay Packers has been on the quarterback position. A decision has to be made involving Aaron Rodgers before they can start on their other offseason plans. However, whether or not it is him or Jordan Love under center in 2023, this is a Packers offense that could use some more pass-catching talent.

The team used a lot of draft resources to land Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs in the 2022 NFL Draft. They both showed flashes during their rookie season and make for a good foundation in the passing game. Adding more weapons to target in the passing game certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Unfortunately for the Packers, the free agent wide receiver class is lacking high-end talent. If they want to make a sizable upgrade there, a trade is the likelier route. DeAndre Hopkins of the Arizona Cardinals and Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals are two names to keep an eye on.

On the open market, Green Bay could be better off targeting a pass-catching tight end to bolster the offense. In that scenario, one player who would fit the bill is Dalton Schultz of the Dallas Cowboys.

After playing on the franchise tag in 2022, Schultz looks like he will be moving on from the Cowboys this offseason. Injuries limited him at times during the season, but he showed more than enough to land a multi-year deal as a real weapon in the passing game.

In two playoff games, Schutlz caught 12 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns. He is a difference-maker working the seams and presents a nice mismatch against linebackers and undersized safeties. It wasn’t too long ago that Robert Tonyan was bursting onto the scene in Green Bay and Schultz is a more explosive option than him at the tight end position.

Schultz would present whoever is the starting quarterback as a good safety valve in the passing game. However, if the Packers are going to transition into a more run-heavy scheme, they could look elsewhere in free agency.

Foster Moreau would be another intriguing target as someone that excels as a blocker but has upside as a receiver. He played well in relief of Darren Waller the last two seasons and is likely ready for an expanded role elsewhere in 2023.
