With the 2023 NFL season right around the corner, teams around the league are looking to make last-minute moves to improve their rosters. Among those teams are the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, who have always remained active in trade and free agency discussions. Could the two sides come together on an intriguing trade involving wide receiver Michael Gallup?
Jordan Love is set to take over the starting quarterback job in Green Bay. For years, Aaron Rodgers has terrorized opposing defenses. Now, the young quarterback will need as many weapons as possible to have a strong start to his career with the Packers.
Adding a talent like Gallup would make a ton of sense for the Packers. If the Cowboys are open to moving him, there is a potential trade that could make both parties pull the trigger.
The Trade Proposal
Packers Receive: Michael Gallup
Cowboys Receive: 2024 Third-Round Pick, 2025 Fifth-Round Pick
On the outside looking in, this trade would be a good fit for both sides. The Cowboys would add some draft capital and move forward with CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks as their top two targets. Granted, Jerry Jones and company could simply favor keeping Gallup as a weapon for Dak Prescott.
As for the Packers, this would be an easy trade to pull the trigger on. Gallup is 27 years old and in the prime of his career. There have been injury concerns, but adding a veteran and proven weapon for Love should be a priority for Green Bay if the opportunity presents itself.
Last season with the Cowboys, Gallup ended up catching 39 passes for 424 yards and four scores. He played in 14 games, but did deal with some nagging injury issues.
This move would make sense for both sides, but the Cowboys may not be looking to move Michael Gallup. If they’re open to the idea, the Packers should absolutely make a call and see if they can get something done.
