Smith-Schuster Would’ve Opened Up the Packers’ Offense
Combining JuJu Smith-Schuster with Aaron Rodgers is a scary thought. JuJu would have been the best wide receiver Rodgers could throw to since 2017 and Rodgers is a better quarterback than JuJu had in Pittsburgh. Putting the two of them together could have resulted in some incredible stats.
During his first two years in Pittsburgh, JuJu was part of a team that ranked second in total passing yards per game each season. His ability to create space was a big reason why the Steelers had so much success throwing the football.
Going to Green Bay instead would have likely flipped the situation to where the Packers were leading the league in passing yards per game. The other big different is that Rodgers is better quarterback. In JuJu’s break out 2018 season, it would not be unthinkable that if Rodgers were throwing him the ball, he could have lead the league in yards received.
It is also likely JuJu breaks the 1,000 yards mark in 2019 even before his injury with more consistency at quarterback. If JuJu goes to the Packers in 2017 things change by him getting first team all pro honors in 2018 by leading the league in receiving yards and a second 1,000-yard campaign in 2019, doubling his actual total that year.
The Packers also become the best passing team in the NFL and pick up a few more wins. We will never know if JuJu would have been enough to push the Packers to another Super Bowl appearance, but he sure would not have hurt.
