New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara took a big step back in 2019. He burst onto the scene as a rookie showing off his dual-threat abilities. In 2018, Kamara finished with 883 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. He added 81 catches for 709 yards and four touchdowns. Despite earning his third straight Pro Bowl appearance last season, it was not the same.

The New Orleans Saints did not use Kamara in the same way and it showed. He went from 14 rushing touchdowns to just five. He finished with 81 catches once again but only 533 yards and one touchdown.

Miraculously, Latavius Murray scored the same amount of touchdowns in 2019 as Kamara. In the Saints’ Wild Card loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Kamara was invisible. He carried the ball seven times for 21 yards and had eight catches for 34 yards. Kamara scored a rushing touchdown in the loss.

Aaron Jones is in his final year of his four-year rookie deal with the Green Bay Packers. It is unknown if the Packers will bring Jones back. They selected Boston college running back A.J. Dillon in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. If they choose, Green Bay could opt to let Jones walk in free agency and look for another option at running back. Perhaps Kamara.

Like Jones, Kamara is also in the final year of his rookie contract. He will be a sought after free agent once the 2020 season is complete. If there is a choice, Kamara is a better option for the Packers than Jones.

With that being said, here are three reasons why the Packers should plan to pursue Alvin Kamara in 2021.
