Performance Of New Head Coach Matt Rhule
Ron Rivera has been the head coach of the Carolina Panthers since 2011, and has had a fairly successful tenure. The Panthers have made the playoffs four out of his nine season, and even competed in Super Bowl 50, after a 15-1 regular season.
The jury has been out for Rivera since 2016, when Carolina posted a 6-10 record, the season after the Super Bowl appearance. The team did manage to appear in the playoffs in 2017, but fans still weren’t excited by the prospect of Rivera remaining the head coach.
His constant conservative offense and defense led to a lot of blown leads, and missed opportunities at comebacks. He rarely placed Cam Newton in a position for him to remain full successful, and quite honestly, wasted quite a bit of defensive talent.
Matt Rhule gets a crack in the Carolina locker room, and assumes a completely different roster from the season prior. He will have the opportunity to coach a young, and talented squad, and potentially may have the chance at a top quarterback in the 2021 draft.
He has revived programs such as Temple, and Baylor, and now it will be interesting to see if he can bring some of his magic to the professional ranks.
Alongside him comes Phil Snow, and Joe Brady from LSU. A coaching staff full of successful college programs, but yet to prove it in the NFL. College coaches haven’t typically had the most success making the jump, it will be interesting to see if Rhule can.
