Immediate Impact Of Rookie Class
The Carolina Panthers entered the 2020 draft with a clear goal in mind, defense. The team took seven defensive players in their seven picks, and their draft was viewed very highly amongst the public.
The Derrick Brown selection was a little unfavored with defensive stud Isaiah Simmons still on the board, but Brown is an absolute force on the interior of the line.
The Panthers then followed up the Brown pick by selecting defensive end, Yetur Gross-Matos, and safety, Jeremy Chinn. Both viewed as first round talents, and both second-round steals.
These rookies, and the remaining young defensive players on the team from last year will have loads of opportunities to play through mistakes.
The defensive side of the ball will be like running hills. You’ll have moments where they look athletic, fast, and promising, and then there will be moments where guys look like they have no idea what they’re doing. Between jumping receivers too quickly, or trying to make the big play instead of holding their block, this defense will makes mistakes.
When you give rookies a lot of opportunities to play, it is bound to look at times like they are brand new, but that’s because they are.
For all we know, these talented players could come in and be ready to play the moment the ball is kicked off on week one. However, there is the other side of the coin, where the team looks young, and immature, yet could still look very promising for a strong Carolina future, and that might be all that Panthers fans can ask for.
