Patrick Peterson Wants To Sign With Atlanta Falcons?

Cornerback Patrick Peterson showed during the 2022 season that he still has plenty left in the tank to offer a team. There wasn’t much of anything to get excited about when it comes to the Minnesota Vikings’ defense in 2022, but Patrick Peterson was one of the bright spots.

The future Hall of Famer had an excellent season with the Vikings, recording five interceptions, the second most in a season. The 15 passes defended that Patrick Peterson registered were also the second most in his career. His 66 combined tackles were the most of his career, with three tackles for loss tying his career high.

Most importantly for Patrick Peterson, he was able to stay healthy. He appeared in all 17 games and played 95 percent of the defensive snaps. The 1,105 plays he was on the field for were the most for him since the 2018 season and the second most played in his career.

PFF gave him a grade of 80.7, which was the second highest of his career and was the fourth-highest-graded player in coverage in the NFL in 2022. Set to enter free agency, he should have no issues landing a new contract. Spotrac predicts that his market value will be a one-year deal worth $6.4 million.

Where could the former LSU star end up? If Patrick Peterson had his choice, it sounds like he would like to play for the Atlanta Falcons.

Patrick Peterson and the Falcons could be a match made in heaven. They have one building block in their secondary in A.J. Terrell, but beyond him, the depth at cornerback is shaky. The Falcons have four cornerbacks hitting free agency and three of them played at least 31 percent of the team’s defensive snaps last season.

Adding Patrick Peterson would provide the team with some more experience and depth at the position, providing insurance in case Casey Hayward struggles to stay healthy and on the field again.

Expect the Vikings to make a push to retain him as well as their secondary was torched throughout the 2022 season. Losing Patrick Peterson, who was their best cornerback, would be a tough blow to overcome.
