New England lacked any kind of legitimate threat on the outside this past season. They tried to remedy the issue with Antonio Brown and Josh Gordon, but neither of them finished the season with the team due to off the field issues.
Their leading pass catcher was 33-year-old slot receiver Julian Edelman, who totaled 100 catches for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns. After him you have running back James White with 72 catches, then there’s a major drop off in production, with wideout Phillip Dorsett coming in as the Patriots third leading receiver, finishing the year with 29 catches for 397 yards and five touchdowns.
Robby Anderson would have an instant impact on this Patriots offensive attack — that goes without saying. He’s coming off his third straight season with at least 50 catches, 750 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He did that with a few different quarterbacks tossing him the rock as well, making that output even more impressive.
Brady hasn’t had a true deep threat at his disposal for some time now. Not only would Anderson bring that big play ability to New England’s offense, he would provide the consistency at receiver that the Patriots have been searching for.
