As the NFL offseason continues to progress, teams are starting to get into OTA’s. Needless to say, fans cannot wait to have football back on the TV. One team to keep an eye on could be the New England Patriots, who are always open to making a move to improve no matter how dead the movement around the league has been.
Bill Belichick and company have always been open to shaking things up to become more legitimate contenders. They could have an opportunity to do just that late this offseason.
Throughout the course of the offseason, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ star linebacker Devin White has been mentioned in quite a few trade rumors. Even now, there is no guarantee either way whether he will stay or get traded. White could be a very intriguing target for the Patriots.
Clutch Points recently wrote about the Patriots and their potential trade targets. White came in at No. 1 on the list.
New England could certainly use some help at linebacker, even after selecting Marte Mapu in the third-round of this year’s draft. There aren’t many better options available than White, and while he may cost a lot in terms of money and draft capital like Baker, this would give the Patriots a foundational piece to build around for the foreseeable future.
Granted, this is far from a report that the Patriots and Buccaneers are actually talking about a trade. But, the move would make sense for both parties.

For the Patriots, acquiring a defensive impact star like White would be an obvious move to make. White would instantly improve their defense in a big way. New England also has a major need for upgrades in the middle of their defense.
On the other side of the deal, the Buccaneers would be able to get draft capital out of the move. White and Tampa Bay seem to be likely to split at some point in the future, so trading him now while his value is high makes perfect sense.
Expect to continue hearing rumblings, rumors, and speculation in the coming weeks. The NFL offseason has slowed way down, but Devin White is still a name to keep a close eye on.
