The 2023 season could be franchise-altering for the New England Patriots. There have been rumors floating around this offseason that head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft had a relationship that is deteriorating.

People who are close to Belichick believe that he is under a lot of pressure to win this season. If he doesn’t lead the Patriots to the playoffs, he could find himself on the unemployment line after the season.

It would be fair to assume that if the losses are piling up in New England this offseason, it means quarterback Mac Jones was struggling. This could be his last chance to prove to the Patriots that he should be their long-term answer under center.

After a solid rookie season, the Alabama product struggled mightily in Year 2. Injuries played a part, as well as the unorthodox coaching staff structure that the Patriots used. When healthy he played a little better, but there was reportedly a disconnect between him and Belichick.

If a move is going to be made under center, New England will be in a position to make a splash next offseason. Projected to have the most cap space in the league in 2024, the Patriots can swing for the fences.

That is part of the reason in which why Jakob Ashlin of FanSided believes that the Patriots are the best landing spot for Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray. Under a new regime with general manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon, they could look to do a full reset in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Many projections have the Cardinals landing the No. 1 pick, which could lead them to selecting USC star quarterback, Caleb Williams. If that is the direction things look to be trending, Murray trade rumors will heat up.

The Patriots certainly aren’t ready to write Jones off as a starter, but that could change depending on how the 2023 season goes. Murray has already reached impressive heights. He was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 and was selected to the Pro Bowl the next two seasons.

An ACL injury cut his 2022 season short, which is still recovering from now. There is a chance he sits out the 2023 season, which would make the 2024 campaign a clean slate for the Oklahoma product. With a potential revamping on the horizon for the Patriots, Murray could conceivably be the franchise quarterback that leads the next era of the franchise.
